The U.S.A. 250 Challenge
It’s the 250th anniversary of the United States!
To celebrate, we want to challenge the community to read a book set in every U.S. state and territory. When you visit the library, think about the primary setting of any book you have read in 2026. Then, place a pin in that state on our big map.
Together, we can do it!
Talking is Teaching!
The Detroit/Wayne County Talking is Teaching Community Campaign is working to support families and involve our community in understanding the importance of early connections with children to support their brain growth and feelings of safety and security.
The Melvindale Public Library is proud to partner with the Talking is Teaching Community Campaign to provide materials to help parents Talk, Read and Sing with their little ones even more! Families can visit the library to get a free book to keep and a book bag to take home. Books are available in English, Arabic, and Spanish. One book per family.

Libby Ambient RLA Available Now!
Melvindale Public Library, through The Library Network, has a virtual lending partnership with many other Michigan library systems. Those libraries will now be automatically added to your Libby. A lending partnership allows library cardholders access to ebooks and audiobooks in Libby from an external library network when your library does not own them, or have shorter wait times with more copies of an ebook available. As part of the Download Destination group, Melvindale Library partners with the following library consortiums:
- Bay County Library System
- Genessee District Library
- Great Lakes Digital Libraries
- Jackson District Library
- Lakeland Digital Library
- Metro Net Library Consortium
- Mideastern Michigan Library Consortium
- Midwest Collaborative For Library Services
